Bishop of Tonbridge Visits Saint George’s All-Through School

We were honoured to welcome the Right Reverend Simon Burton-Jones, Bishop of Tonbridge, to Saint George’s for a truly inspiring morning of discussion, reflection, and learning on Tuesday, 4th February 2025.

During his visit, Bishop Simon engaged with our Value Ambassadors - student leaders representing our school's Primary and Secondary phases. These young ambassadors play an important role in upholding and promoting our school’s core values, and they relished the opportunity to share their experiences with the Bishop. In return, he offered insights into his own leadership journey, emphasising the significance of humility and active listening as essential qualities of a strong leader.

Following these conversations, Bishop Simon addressed our Year 12 students, delivering a thought-provoking talk on Ethical Leadership. He encouraged them to reflect on leadership that goes beyond authority and power, one that is rooted in service, integrity, and a commitment to empowering others. His message was both challenging and inspiring, urging students to consider a counter-cultural approach to leadership, one that is inclusive, compassionate, and transformative.

The visit was a valuable opportunity for students to engage with real-world leadership perspectives, gaining wisdom that will undoubtedly shape their own journeys as future leaders. It was a morning filled with meaningful discussions, inspiring guidance, and a renewed sense of purpose for all involved.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Bishop Simon for his time, wisdom, and encouragement. His visit has left a lasting impression on our school community, and we look forward to continuing to instil these important values in our students.
