Welcome to exams. If you are doing your GCSE or A-Level exams, this information will be important for you. All exams are subject to JCQ regulations. This means that when we run exams, we have to abide by their rules.
You might think that some rules are ‘ridiculous’ but we are simply adhering to the rules and regulations that JCQ expects from us. Each year we are subject to multiple inspections from JCQ to ensure that we are adhering to the rules. Unlike Ofsted where the school gets a day's notice, we do not get any advance warning and all systems need to be in place ready for inspection at a moment's notice.
You will find all the information that you need in the downloadable documents below. However, there are a few points that need to be emphasised:
No potential technological/web enabled sources of information are allowed in the exam room. If you have any devices in your pocket, this could result in a zero for that exam paper, or depending on the circumstances, the exam board might disqualify you. It makes no difference if it is switched off, the rules clearly state it is not allowed in the exam room and the exam boards do not allow any concessions regarding this.
If you do not want to leave your phone in your bag you are always able to give it to a teacher to keep safe until the end of the exam. If you forget, you have one last opportunity before the exam starts when the invigilator will ask if anyone has any devices on them. This will be your last chance to hand it in without any consequences. Anyone found with any device including mobile phones, air pods, watches or any Bluetooth-enabled device will be reported to the exam board for suspected malpractice. - Arrive ON TIME for your exams. If you arrive after the exam has started, this is recorded and reported to the exam board. Dependent on the circumstances, they could refuse to accept your script, and you will receive a zero for that paper.
If you are going to be late for reasons beyond your control like being stuck in traffic, it is important that you call the school as soon as possible and let the exams officer know so that we can make the necessary arrangements to avoid any negative consequences.
